N502 Theory for Advanced Nursing Practice (3cr): This course focuses on analyzing the relationships between theory and research for effective translation to practice. Emphasis is placed on selection and evaluation of theories, interprofessional perspectives, and using theory to guide practice and research.
N504 Leadership for Advanced Nursing Practice (3cr): This course addresses organizational and leadership knowledge and skills required to advance health outcomes and influence policy. Key leadership issues and challenges affecting advanced practice nurses will be examined and effective leadership and advocacy skills will be applied.
R500 Nursing Research Methods (3cr): This course emphasizes using research findings as a basis for clinical and organization decision-making in the delivery of high quality evidence-based health care. Emphasis is placed on identifying clinical problems and searching, appraising and synthesizing research evidence for application or, in the absence of evidence, generating new knowledge using research methods. Strategies for disseminating findings across interprofessional contexts and monitoring continuous quality improvement are examined.
R505 Measurement and Data Analysis (3cr): Principles and applications of scientific measurement, data summarization, univariate, and bivariate inferential statistics are addressed. The research purpose and phenomenon under study are considered as determinants of measurement techniques and data analysis.
Y625 Advanced Physical Assessment across the Lifespan (3cr): This course prepares graduate students to perform and document individualized health histories and physical examinations for clients across the lifespan.
Y515 Advanced Pathophysiology across the Lifespan (3cr): This course teaches students advanced principles of human physiology and pathophysiology across the lifespan. It explores the physiological manifestation and clinical presentation of disease processes in preparation for advanced nursing practice. Graduate students learn to differentiate between normal and abnormal human physiology and the clinical data necessary to identify abnormal pathogenesis and disease processes.
Y612: Advanced Pharmacology across the Lifespan (3cr): This course focuses on pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomics, and pharmacotherapeutic decision making for advanced practice nursing across the lifespan.
Y600 Diagnostic Reasoning (3cr): Nurse Practitioner clinical diagnostic, problem-solving, and reasoning skills are advanced through a problem-oriented focus, interactive hands-on-practice, and deliberate self-reflection.
Y535 Dynamics of Family Health Syllabus (3cr): Provide students with opportunities to study families within the community context. Consideration is given to theories of family functioning and roles in family health care, the use of family assessment tools and other nursing intervention strategies.
F571 Family Nurse Practitioner I (4cr): This introductory management course prepares the family nurse practitioner (FNP) student with a knowledge base for clinical decisions related to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a primary care setting. This course will focus on clinical decision making for individuals and families across the lifespan on the following topics: Developmental and Functional Milestones, Health Maintenance and Screening, Risk Factor Assessment; and the following body systems: HEENT, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Infectious diseases, GI, and GU/Renal.
F573 Family Nurse Practitioner I Practicum (2cr): This course allows the novice family nurse practitioner (FNP) student to apply Family Nurse Practitioner I didactic content to the clinical setting under the direct supervision of an approved licensed community-based health care provider. The FNP student will begin to assess, diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic illnesses in a primary healthcare setting while promoting healthy behaviors through patient-appropriate education across the lifespan.
F575 Family Nurse Practitioner II (3cr): This advanced management course builds on the previous course (FNP I) and prepares the family nurse practitioner (FNP) student with knowledge to perform clinical decision making for common complex health problems across the lifespan, in a primary care setting.
F577 Family Nurse Practitioner II Practicum (3cr): The advanced family nurse practitioner (FNP) student will apply critical thinking skills to treat complex disease processes across the lifespan in a primary care setting, under the direct supervision of an approved licensed health care provider. This course will apply content learned in FNP II.
F579 Family Nurse Practitioner III (3cr): This terminal practicum for family nurse practitioners focuses on synthesis and application of knowledge and skills for autonomous practice across the lifespan. Students complete clinical experiences under supervision of a community based primary care provider preceptor. This course also explores the professional role of an advanced practice nurse.
