Academic Review
As a student at IU Columbus, you may be placed on academic review any time your cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls below the standards that your division or program has established for good academic standing.
Academic Review Policy for Continuing Students
If you are a continuing student, you will be placed on academic review if your cumulative GPA falls below your division or program GPA of good standing. Individual divisions and programs vary in their policies. Contact the division offering your program for additional information on academic review.
- At IU Columbus, a 2.0 cumulative GPA is the minimum necessary to be considered in good academic standing. If you are below this GPA, you are not making progress toward degree completion and are subject to dismissal from the university.
- If your cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0, you will be placed on academic review. You will be informed by letter of your review status. You may continue on review when your semester GPA is above a 2.0 but your cumulative GPA is below a 2.0.
- You will be removed from your review status once your cumulative GPA is above 2.0.
Academic Review/Dismissal Policy for Beginning Students

- If you are a beginning student who attempted 12 or more credit hours your first semester (including Ws), you must obtain at least a 1.0 GPA at the end of your first semester or you will be dismissed. This applies even if your first semester is summer.
- If you withdraw from all courses, you are exempt from this policy.
