Refund policy

If you drop courses, you may be eligible for a refund. Your refund is determined by the date you successfully dropped the courses. Financial aid refunds resulting from dropped courses may need further review by Student Financial Services to determine if the refund is appropriate or if aid needs adjusted for compliance reasons.

If you are taking online courses and currently reside in a state other than Indiana, you may be subject to state-specific refund policies. Contact IUonline@iu.edu for state-specific online course refund policies.

Reasons for possible delays in refunds

• Eligibility problems:
  — Not enrolled in enough hours
  — Updates to class standing
• Prior term debts
• No signed Title IV Authorization form on file
• Bad address on file
• Not set up for direct deposit
• Flagged by Student Loan Administration: Past due loan debts, required exit interview, etc.

The "start date" has been established by the federal government as "the 10th day before the official start date for classes." Please also remember that our office receives new disbursements on a daily basis throughout the semester, so apply early to ensure your earliest possible receipt of funds. Make sure you have completed all check lists so aid can be issued without delay.
