There are a some important steps you need to take to make the graduation process go smoothly.
- Check your eligibility to graduate. Check with your academic advisor before you fill out the application. They can perform a preliminary audit of your coursework and let you know whether you will be eligible to graduate.
- Verify your degree name and mailing address are accurate in Student Central.
- The name there—including apostrophes, suffixes, middle names—and spaces, will be used on your diploma, in transcripts, and in the program book. If you have questions or special characters in your name aren’t appearing correctly, contact the registrar via email at coregr@iu.edu
- Your diploma will be mailed to the address listed in Student Central, so make sure it is correct.

- Check for record holds via One.IU. Resolve any holds on your record that may impact the release of your diploma or transcripts such as an unpaid bill with the Bursar.

- Apply to Graduate. You need to complete the graduation application form regardless of whether you plan to participate in the commencement celebration.
Apply to graduate - Commencement Celebration. You must have graduated in December of the prior year, or May or August of the current year, to be eligible to participate in the commencement celebration ceremony. Learn more about the commencement ceremony.
- Accessibility Requests are due April 15: Students who are participating in the Commencement Celebration and are aided by the use of a wheelchair, or require accessibility assistance, should call the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Dean at 812-348-7226 by April 15.

- Rent your cap & gown. If you are planning to participate in the commencement celebration ceremony, you will need to rent a cap & gown.
Order Cap & Gown - Pre-register for graduation photos. IU Columbus uses GradImages to capture your special moment in photographs.
- Receive discounts on your photos.
- Register your email address and the addresses of up to six friends and family members who may want to view and order prints.
- GradImages will mail or email each graduate photographed a proof image within five days of the event.
- Graduates will have an opportunity to select from a variety of packages, with no obligation to purchase.
- Get your diploma. The diploma cover presented during the celebration will not contain actual diplomas. Diplomas will be mailed to graduates at the student home address listed on their Student Center. It is the student's responsibility to make sure their Student Home address is correct.
- Any student who has a hold on their account preventing their diploma or transcript from being released will have to pick their diploma up from the Registrar Services Office once the hold is removed.
