Building Community Award
The Indiana University Columbus Building Community Award is intended to recognize, and honor demonstrated commitment and outstanding efforts toward creating a diverse and inclusive community. Each year, IU Columbus will recognize external and internal individuals, organizations, groups, units, projects, or institutions that meet the defined criteria.
Criteria
Nominees must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Engage in meaningful diversity activities beyond one’s professional responsibilities in order to encourage excellence through inclusion in the IU Columbus community.
- Display leadership in advancing diversity on campus and/or in the
- Demonstrate efforts that foster a more inclusive and equitable learning and work
- Show evidence of inclusive teaching and/or program development beyond one’s
- Conduct research and/or creative activity related to the experiences, realities, and/or contributions of persons from diverse populations.
- Provide leadership in programming, training, or other experiences which serve to advance diversity and inclusion at IU Columbus.
Nomination process
Individuals or organizations can self-nominate or be nominated using the designated nomination form and online nomination process. Nominations are encouraged from individuals or groups of faculty, staff, students, or community members.
- The nomination form should be completed on or before November 15.
- Nominee must submit a detailed description of the initiative/efforts made that promotes diversity and an inclusive community and its impact.
- The award committee will review nominations and make recommendations to the vice chancellor.
- Individuals or organizations will be selected, notified, and announced at a special recognition function on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
