If you want to achieve a deeper understanding of gender and its social construction, a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexualities Studies may be right for you.
You will examine societal norms like gender, race, and class as well as the dynamic, fluid definitions of masculinity and femininity and the gendered institutions that we inhabit.
Minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
To minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at IU Columbus, you must:
- Successfully complete 16 credit hours in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies courses with a minimum grade of C in each course.
- Required courses include W105 Introduction to Women’s Studies, W499 Senior Colloquium in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and 12 credits in gender studies and/or cross listed classes (i.e., those in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, etc.).
- When you begin your last class for the minor but before you graduate, contact Maggie Evans for an application form.
- Complete all credit hours for your major area of study and the bachelor’s degree for that major.
Career Options
Pursuing a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies can be useful if you seek a career in fields that focus on concerns of women, such as business, education, nursing, psychology, or sociology.
