As plans evolve and activity's present themselves, we are hoping to find ways to incorporate more sustainability efforts in the following areas:
Earth Day:
Earth Day is an annual event that occurs globally on April 22nd. Various events are held across the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Earth day promotes awareness of environmental challenges. Earth Day Network works year round to solve climate change, to end plastic pollution, to protect endangered species, and to broaden, educate, and activate the environmental movement across the globe. We would like to incorporate ways in which IU Columbus can become supportive and active on this day, and perhaps throughout that week. See this link for more information about the global Earth Day Network.
Arbor Day:
IU Columbus participates in Arbor Day each year. We plan events such as poetry readings about trees, virtual campus tree walks, and of course planting trees to celebrate the 'role' of trees in our lives and to recognize environmental stewardship.
Outdoor stretching area:
Regular stretching is good for the muscles, for blood flow and overall health. Fresh air is good for the brain. We want to offer an area outside for stretching and a moment to pause from work and school stress. By helping to provide health and well being options, we will be able to create an environment for sustainability of employees, students, and community.
Sustainability Courses:
We will be looking into being able to offer courses in sustainability that may have to do with global climate change, or how to go green, and maybe at some time offer a certificate in sustainability.
