This course examines the foundations and contextual dimensions of the mental health counseling profession. Topics include roles, functions, and professional identity of mental health counselors; understanding professional organizations, training standards, credentialing bodies; legal, administrative, and ethical codes around mental health counseling; and implications of diversity relevant to mental health counseling.
