Professional Development to Support Faculty
“I have taken part in the Gateway Community of Practice for a few years now, and I feel that my teaching has benefited immensely. Many of the successful activities I mentioned that I have been doing, I learned in earlier Gateway sessions. It is very satisfying to see how successful strategies have been building one on top of another, making my teaching continually more effective.” (2019-2020 Gateway Fellow)
Since 2016, ten IU Columbus and Ivy Tech Community College Columbus faculty members have participated in the Gateway to Completion Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA). Educators implement best-practice improvement strategies in their gateway courses then document and share their experiences. Data such as grade distribution, retention, and course satisfaction are examined to assess the effectiveness of the strategies implemented.
The Gateway Leadership Team designs professional development programming each academic year and encourages Ivy Tech Community College Columbus and IU Columbus faculty to learn about best-practice instructional strategies.
Faculty and staff who routinely attend Gateway sessions and implemented improvement strategies in their courses or their work earned Gateway Fellows status.
A total of 24 faculty and staff have earned Gateway Fellows status.
